our Horses

Horse and ponies that are suitable for RDA programs need to have good conformation and paces in order to obtain the best results for our clients. They also need to be quiet, kind, forgiving and patient to suit the specialised work our Coaches ask of them.

RDA horses are either purchased, donated or leased. Our accredited Coaches and experienced volunteers spend a lot of time and effort in their selection, training and ongoing care.

Ideally our Centres aim to have a variety of horses and ponies of different heights and conformation. This enables our Coaches to match the most suitable horse with the individual needs of each client.

Centres are always on the look out for new horses and ponies. Ideally they are looking for horses within the following specifications:

  • Between 12-15hh;

  • Aged between 8 and 20 years of age;

  • Good conformation and paces; and

  • A quiet and willing nature.
